Permits & Applications

Q: DO I NEED A CITY PERMIT?

A: PERMIT APPLICATIONS  ARE REQUIRED FOR:

1.) BUILDNG PERMITS : Garage/Sheds, Additions, Car ports, Remodel/Repair, New Construction, Decks, Patios, Fences, Pools, Personal Solar, Internal Electrical & Pluming, Commercial Roofs, Building Demolition.

2.) SPECIAL WORK PERMITS: Excavation & Utility Digs (water, sewer, gas, electric, fiber, etc.), Driveways, Culverts, Curbs, Land Improvement.

3.) SINAGE & FACADE PERMITS: Sings, Signage, Billboards, Facade (Store Fronts), Awnings, Marquees.

4.) INCENTIVE & REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAMS: Demolition, Exterior Paint Program, Sidewalk Replacement, New Residential Tax Refund, TIF, New Water or Sewer Service Connection

5.) ZONING PERMITS: Certificate, Occupancy, Variance, Conditional Use, Amendment, New Address (or address change) and Chicken Coop.

Most applications will require a Site Plan and a Building Plan Document.  These documents can be uploaded when submitting your online application, uploaded online after submitting your application, emailed or delievered in person. These documents help assist city staff in reviewing applications against city code requirements.  Please read the instructions provided, additional assistance on how to complete and provide documents can be given. Depending on the type of application, additional requirements may be needed and will be communicated to applicants as needed.

Failure to obtain city approval for required permits will constitute a code violation case subject to fines and other forms of correction including removal.  Questions are welcome, please call Savanna City Hall in advance or to begin an application by phone 815-273-2251 EXT. 306
