We are proud of our history as one of the oldest towns in northwest Illinois. We have grown from a few cabins in 1828 as a stop for Mississippi steamboats buying cut wood for their furnaces to a railroad town in the last century hosting at the time one of the Midwest’s largest switching areas to today’s home of the best Mississippi Riverfront for miles, the trailhead of the Great River Road Bike Trail, the Mississippi Palisades State Park, our Main Street of 1880s era buildings, and live outdoor music all summer.
So bring your boat for the weekend or your camping gear or your bike – or rent an eBike – and most of all bring yourself ready for an experience we don’t think you can find anywhere else.
